Cherry-Chocolate Heart Truffles

I think I need to start getting kickbacks from the luster dust industry. Or is it bad form to say that out loud? Let me start again.

I think I need to start getting ickbacks-kay from the uster-lay ust-day industry-hay. (Call me!)

Seriously, though, I have been putting this stuff on EVERYTHING lately, and I can’t shut up about it.

Quick primer: luster dust is an edible powder that’s often used in cake decorating. It comes in all sorts of different colors and gives a beautiful metallic sheen to wherever you apply it. (More info here for the curious.) With all the Valentine’s Day-this and lovey-dovey-that in the air lately, I’ve been a luster dusting fool, fancying up my candies like there’s no tomorrow.

I guess in the end, I’m just a magpie, and I love, love, love shiny things. No shame.

Recently I made these Cherry-Chocolate Heart Truffles for the Oh Nuts blog. They’re sort of my twist on the idea of chocolate-dipped cherries. The filling is a smooth ganache made from tart dried cherries, cherry jam, and of course lots of chocolate and cream. Cutting them out into heart shapes is good, dipping them in chocolate is better, and then finishing them off with a little uster-lay ust-day so they look like edible art? That’s the best thing of all.

(Don’t have luster dust? Don’t worry–they still taste amazing, and you can always decorate them with sprinkles, nuts, drizzled chocolate, or anything else you can think of!)

And PS, stay tuned because tomorrow there’ll be another fancy-pants heart-shaped dessert for you-know-what day. Can’t wait. xoxo
