Hello friends! I am SO excited to write this post today. If you’ve visited SugarHero in the last few days, you might have noticed that things look a little–okay, a LOT–different! We have a completely new site with a lot of awesome features, designed specifically to make your lives easier, and I want to spend some time highlighting all the new things I think you’ll love.

I’m going to take you through the desktop site, but I think you’ll find the mobile site is equally easy to use and has all of the same functionality!

Sign up for the mailing list and become part of the SugarHero Squad. You'll get every recipe sent right to your email, plus first dibs on special offers, news, and more! Love you, mean it!

Our promise: no spam, just sweet sweet sugar.

This new site has been a HUGE labor of love and has taken many months of behind-the-scenes work to bring to life. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it turned out–shout out to my designer and developer, Lindsay Humes, who created a beautiful site and tolerated my excessive nitpicking with grace.

One of our biggest goals for the redesign was to make it easier for you to find lots of content. You’re here to get recipe ideas, so let’s make that as easy as possible! The front page is now packed with different units that can showcase seasonal recipes, our most popular desserts, tutorials, videos, and so much more.

We have a really robust menu system that highlights the most common recipe categories, and it sticks to the top of the page as you scroll so you’re never far from a menu. When you hover over the category, you’ll see subcategories on the left (when applicable) as well as thumbnails of the most recent posts in that category, to give you some instant dessert inspiration!

Videos have become a huge part of SugarHero’s content, so we created a dedicated Video page, as well as added a video unit to the home page. You can play the videos right on the page, or enlarge them to take up the full screen.

Easy Recipe Browsing

The Recipe page has gotten a complete facelift, and is so useful (and honestly, so clever!) On the left are drop-down categories like dessert type, holidays, ingredients, and more. You just select as many of the categories as you want, and the page automatically shows you the recipes that match that criteria.

Want to find some Christmas cookie ideas? Just select cookies and Christmas, and you’ll see a targeted list of recipe results. It’s genius! Click “Reset Filters” at the bottom of the drop-down lists to start a new search.

Blog Posts: Jump to Recipe and More

The blog post pages have also been completely overhauled with you in mind. At the top of every post, underneath the title, you’ll see 3 elements: a star rating, a “Jump to Recipe” button, and a “Leave A Review” button.

I’m not going to lie, I hope you’ll (usually) take the time to read the posts–I work hard to make them informative and useful! But I also know that some people are just here to get the recipe, and when that’s the case, just hit “Jump to Recipe” and you’ll be bounced down the page right to the recipe box.

You’ll also see pink “Jump to Recipe” links aaaaalllll over the site, underneath just about every picture. When you find the perfect recipe while you’re browsing, it’s easy to click that link and go right to the recipe.

Recipe Box Customizations

Speaking of the recipe box–there have been some big improvements! You can adjust the serving size of any recipe just by changing the serving number in the recipe card box.*

*Note: this will only change the weight measurement–it will not change the (grayed out) cup measurement. It’s just how the recipe card is set up. If you are changing the serving size please pay attention to which numbers are changing in the recipe card, and make sure those are the numbers you’re using. Email me if you have any questions about this!

You can also easily toggle between US Customary and Metric measurements just by clicking whichever option you’d like to display. My recipes are developed with US measurements, so the metric conversion is done by a computer program. It does yield some amusingly precise numbers sometimes (258.4446 grams??) but I hope my metric friends will still find it a useful addition!

Welcome to the New SugarHero Website | From SugarHero.com

Guys–guysguys. You can now upload pictures of your recipes directly onto SugarHero! I have wanted this ability for literally YEARS. I can’t tell you how many emails and comments I’ve received from people who have enjoyed a recipe and said some variation of, “I wish I could share a picture with you!” AND NOW YOU CAN!

Here’s the deal. While you’re leaving a comment, you can choose an image file to upload along with your comment. (We have a few kinks to work out with mobile uploading, so for now it works best on desktop, but soon it should be good to go everywhere.) I will be manually approving any comments with images, just to keep things family-friendly, so after I approve everything the world will be able to see your beautiful creations!

The other thing to note about commenting is that you can now  mark whether your comment is a review or a question. (General comments are also appreciated, of course!)

Did you know that the single most helpful thing you can do for a food blog is to leave a review if you’ve made the recipe? It encourages other readers to try the recipe, and also helps boost the recipe’s ranking in google. So if you make a recipe and you enjoy it, I would be so grateful if you would come back and let me and your fellow readers know!

And here is how the new comments section will appear. You can filter the comments by All / Reviews / Questions, and any images will appear directly with your comment.

Old comments have to be manually placed in the right categories, which will probably happen in approximately 100 years… yikes! Real talk, I’ll probably never get to it. But going forward, comment sorting should be a really easy way to see if other people have already asked a question you have, or to see a concise list of actual reviews from people who’ve made the recipe.

PS Can we all admire Danielle’s gorgeous mousse cake?! She rocked that recipe!

Feedback Please!

So those are the main changes! Honestly, literally EVERYTHING looks a million percent better, and I would love it if you would take a little time to look around the new SugarHero. There are many small tweaks I still need to make, and I’m sure there are bugs that we haven’t come across yet. Please let me know if you stumble on anything that looks odd or doesn’t work right!

What do you think? I would genuinely love your feedback. Tell me what you like about it, what you don’t, and what other features you would like to see in the future.

Join Our New Facebook Group!

We just set up a brand-new Facebook group for SugarHero fans, and I would love for you to join us! It literally just launched today! Come join and share your baking projects, show off your pictures, ask questions, get recipe recommendations, see behind-the-scenes stuff, and so much more! We have an AMAZING community here and I’m excited to get to know you all better through a group. I’ll also be doing some giveaways this week to get conversation going, so come join,  say hi, let me know who you are!
